HYDRATED SKIN

HYDRATED SKIN

What does dry skin mean?

Dry skin is a very common skin disorder in the population, which is generally characterized by a rough feel, dull color and fine scales that are sometimes imperceptible.  It can also give rise to itching of varying intensity and whitish coloration.
The most superficial part of the skin is made up of cells that are renewed approximately every 28 days. If there is a more accelerated turnover or if the layer of dead cells is retained in the most superficial part of the skin, the skin may take on the appearance of dry skin.
When the skin loses its usual state of hydration, the skin barrier function is altered. Therefore, the inconvenience caused may be greater than just an aesthetic problem, leading to injuries or the probability of skin infections.
Estrogens and effects on the skin
Menopause is the stage of women's lives in which hormonal changes occur. One of the organs that is directly affected by menopause is the skin.
The reduction of estrogen and collagen has a direct impact on skin moisture levels.
During menopause, its effect on the skin starts to become very visible. The skin becomes dry and acquires a rougher appearance, and wrinkles and flaccidity appear.
How to contribute to skin hydration in menopause

At this stage, it is very important to maintain stable levels of hydration in the skin, both inside and out.
As a first tip, drink plenty of water to keep the organs well hydrated and functioning optimally.
It is also very important to incorporate compounds such as hyaluronic acid, which has the following properties on hydration and skin ageing:
- Hydration: It maintains the moisture levels of the skin as it has the characteristic of retaining water, which acts as a tissue lubricant.
- Plumping: It increases the volume and density of the skin, minimizing the appearance of wrinkles and increasing the production of collagen, which is essential to keep the skin firm and smooth.
