ELASTIC SKIN

ELASTIC SKIN

What does elastic skin mean?

Skin elasticity is a property that allows the skin to change and recover its shape when it is stretched or deformed. With the passage of time, there is a progressive loss of collagen and elastin which, together with hydration, are responsible for the firmness and elasticity of the skin. The level of these components is essential to preserve the skin's structure and contribute to maintaining a youthful appearance.

Factors contributing to the loss of elasticity
As time goes by, and in particular from the age of 40 to 45 with the onset of menopause, the structure of our skin begins to change mainly due to the loss of collagen and elastin. In addition, elasticity decreases and thus the skin acquires a dry and rough appearance. Both collagen and elastin fibers degrade, causing skin flaccidity and, therefore, loss of firmness and smoothness.
What does skin elasticity depend on and how can we contribute to its improvement?
Skin elasticity is primarily related to connective tissue health. Therefore, if you want to maximize skin elasticity, the best thing you can do is combine your skin care regimen with lifestyle changes.  Here are some tips to improve elasticity naturally:

-Eat healthily: It is important to consume foods rich in antioxidants and drink enough water.
-Physical activity: Exercise regularly to increase blood flow, circulation and to provide more oxygen and nutrients to the skin. This also increases collagen production, thus allowing cells to work efficiently.
-Rest: Skin repairs itself when you sleep, so a good night's rest is crucial for good skin health.  Adequate rest helps restore the skin, providing it with time to fight free radicals and increase collagen production.
-Supplements: If food is not enough to supply the necessary components, supplements rich in soy isoflavones, genistein and hyaluronic acid are recommended. Soy isoflavones, especially genistein, act on fibroblasts. These fibroblasts are a type of cell that contribute to the formation of connective tissue, a fibrous material that supports and connects other tissues or organs in the body. Fibroblasts secrete collagen, a protein that helps maintain the structural framework of tissues which, together with hyaluronic acid, helps maintain skin elasticity.
